Emma Massey

Dr. Emma K. Massey is Associate Professor at the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, working in the
department of Nephrology & Transplantation. She leads the research line on psychosocial aspects of
kidney transplantation and living donation. Her research interests include psychological well-being of
patients and donors, self-management, medication adherence and lifestyle, anonymous living donation,
and optimal patient and donor education. In this capacity she supervises PhD and MSc students and
advises Nurse Practitioners in their research and teaches medical undergraduates on these topics. She is
currently secretary of the Dutch national working group on Social Scientific Research in Nephrology
(SWON) and chair of the ‘ELPAT’ platform on the Ethical, Legal and Psychosocial Aspects of
Transplantation, a section of the European Society of Organ Transplantation.
